Being contents does not answer every drop question

A phone is a possession, but that does not establish whether a drop is covered. Search beyond the word phone. Read the definition of mobile electronics, the insured events, and any additional cover shown on the policy schedule. A general statement about household belongings is not a promise about every accident.

NN explains drops and impacts under its additional Mobile Electronics module. Another product may be structured differently. Compare the documents belonging to your actual insurance, with the relevant version and start date. An advertisement for a newly offered product may describe a different arrangement from an older contract.

What happened to the device?

Record where the phone was resting or being held, what happened, and the surface it struck. Discovering a crack later differs from witnessing it fall from a table. If the cause is unknown, describe the discovery without filling the gap. A case or screen protector is a separate component: identify which part was damaged.

Photograph the complete device and the affected area. Keep its make, model, and available device identifier in your private file. Retain purchase evidence even if the phone was a gift or bought second-hand. Explain its history with whatever transfer information actually exists.

List observed functional problems separately. A black display, damaged camera, and loose casing are different observations. Do not repeatedly charge or use a visibly unsafe device to demonstrate its condition. Ask an appropriate repairer how to submit it safely.

Agree the repair process

Ask the insurer which assessment and repair route it expects. On its module page, NN asks customers to make arrangements before independently organising repair. That describes its process; your insurer should explain the procedure applicable to yours. Keep the diagnosis, quotation, and agreement about inspection charges.

Check whether a proposal addresses only the screen or other confirmed damage too. Distinguish repair cost, any deductible, and a possible replacement valuation. A new phone's retail price is not itself a settlement calculation.

Arrange personal-data removal in a way consistent with secure handover and the agreed examination. Keep purchase evidence and identification outside the broken phone. If a repairer resets or replaces the device, obtain a record linking the work to the original identifier. This avoids losing the claim file along with access to the handset.
