Give the event an identifiable beginning
Start with your policy or customer details, the affected address, and a short account in ordinary language. For example, you discovered water beside the washing machine and two boxes of books were wet. That says more than water damage everywhere. State when you observed it and whether the event itself may have happened earlier.
Separate observation from explanation. If no technician has examined the problem, do not invent a technical cause. Say it remains unknown and identify anybody already contacted. For theft, describe missing objects and the home's condition without filling in an unknown entry route.
Univé provides its own notification route for contents losses and explains that follow-up information may be needed. Use your insurer's official channel for the circumstances. An ordinary online report and assistance with an urgent incident can follow different processes. Find the details directly so a search result for an unrelated damage business is not mistaken for your insurer.
Explain urgency alongside the known extent
Clearly identify an ongoing leak, insecure access, or unusable room. State what appropriate assistance is already present. In danger, do not wait to finish an online form: safety and qualified help come first. Afterwards, ask how necessary measures and expenses should be recorded.
Mark the extent as provisional if inspection is incomplete. A short list of three identifiable possessions is preferable to an invented final total. Separate fixed building damage from belongings and identify any landlord, owners' association, or other owner involved.
For substantial damage, describe everyday essentials that are immediately unavailable without assuming payment. Ask what arrangements can be made for examination, restoration, or a possible advance. Record what has actually been agreed and what remains subject to assessment.
Choose useful first attachments
Provide available wider photographs, an initial inventory, and relevant purchase information. A missing receipt is a question for further enquiry, not permission to create a replacement yourself. Preserve original pictures and send a readable selection; numerous near-identical images do not clarify the event.
Refer to related files where relevant, such as a police reference or the building manager's damage notification. Use an appropriate channel and limit personal information to what is needed. An entire banking history is not a sensible default attachment.
Finish with the next arrangement
Keep the acknowledgement and claim reference. Note outstanding documents and any expected contact. After a telephone report, confirm the facts and arrangements briefly in writing where possible.
Add later information under the same file. Explain each change: another damaged object, a corrected model number, or a finding about the cause. One developing record should preserve earlier uncertainty rather than replace it with a new account that implies everything was known from the start.
If an online form forces a figure or date that you cannot yet establish, use the available explanation field or contact the insurer. Do not let a required box silently turn an estimate into a statement of certainty.
