Identify the actual window fitting
Window coverings is a collective term. Curtains on a rail, a shop-bought roller blind and made-to-measure shutters within a fixed frame describe different objects. In an inventory, record the type of fitting and how it relates to the window. A receipt stating only window decoration may communicate little without a photograph or specification.
The Dutch Association of Insurers' 2020 example list distinguishes curtains and roller blinds from made-to-measure shutters. The list is a reference aid rather than binding policy wording. Use it to formulate a more precise enquiry, then check the relevant contract and circumstances. It does not independently establish a payment entitlement.
Do not remove fittings to demonstrate a category
Whether something can readily move with you can help frame a discussion, but is not a reason to alter the installation. Look first for the quotation or fitting specification. For electrically operated systems, fabric, housing, motor and controls may be listed separately. Retain that detail so the record captures more than the visible fabric.
In a rented home, identify who purchased or acquired the fitting. In an apartment, a permanently installed product can raise questions about building insurance and owner improvements. Describe the housing arrangement alongside the product. The single term shading can imply either internal or external equipment and is often too broad for a specific enquiry.
Describe the affected component
A tear in fabric, a broken slat and an unresponsive motor present different problems. Describe the visible issue without establishing a technical cause yourself. Keep sizing and product-range information where available so a repairer can explain which component requires attention.
Request a quotation separating material, controls where relevant and installation. Make clear what existed before and what represents a proposed upgrade. Choosing a different system may be desirable, but it is not automatically the same cost as repairing the original product. An identifiable starting position helps keep these questions separate and makes a proposed repair easier to assess.
