After a storm does not establish the cause
A router and television no longer respond after a thunderstorm. Record when they last worked and when the problem was discovered. Note other equipment that continued functioning. This gives an examiner information without claiming that you have established the source of a surge.
Centraal Beheer's conditions describe lightning and induction as a particular event. That does not establish that every fault following a storm has that cause. Find your own relevant wording and keep the technical findings distinct from a general description of the weather.
Arrange a safe examination
Do not continue using equipment with visible burning, an unusual smell, or another unsafe condition. Ask an appropriate professional about safe assessment. An insurance file does not require a demonstration involving reconnection of potentially defective equipment.
Ask the repairer to identify the make, model, and device identifier and explain the damage found. A failed power supply can be a finding while its cause still needs investigation. The report should also address whether repair is possible and which components are required. A message saying only electrical damage leaves important questions open.
Several devices do not mean one undifferentiated amount
Create a separate entry for each appliance with its purchase evidence, observed problem, and proposed remedy. If two devices shared a cable connection, describe that arrangement factually. Do not include unaffected equipment just because it was plugged in during the storm.
Distinguish a fixed electrical installation from loose appliances. Work on a distribution board or wiring should be identifiable separately from television repair. Whether several policies or deductibles are relevant depends on their wording and the event assessment.
Keep available outage information and early photographs, but support the amount with identifiable loss items. Ask whether the calculation treats the damaged devices as one event and which value is used for each. If a model number or age is wrong, correct that entry with evidence. A targeted correction is clearer than submitting a new total with no explanation of why it changed.
Retain any service-centre response saying that examination is inconclusive. Uncertainty is a finding too. You can request the insurer's reasons for its assessment without asking a repairer to rewrite an uncertain diagnosis as certainty.
