A policy may mention an underinsurance guarantee. It is tempting to assume nothing needs checking afterwards. Instead, establish which calculation rule it changes and which information or arrangements support it. The name alone does not explain your contract.
Find confirmation of the arrangement
Check the schedule, any endorsement and the wording to establish that the guarantee applies. A general website may discuss another product or distribution variant. Nationale-Nederlanden, for example, distinguishes products arranged online from those offered through an adviser.
Keep the recorded starting information with the guarantee. Depending on the product, this might be a completed questionnaire, valuation calculation or written confirmation. Do not assume every insurer uses the same method. If confirmation is missing, ask what arrangement is actually registered.
Read conditions concerning accurate information or later changes. Questions about residents or the living arrangement need factual answers. A guarantee does not justify filling an unknown input with a favorable guess.
Underinsurance differs from cover
Underinsurance concerns an insured amount below the relevant value. A guarantee addressing it does not automatically insure an excluded event. Separate category limits and valuation of a damaged object require their own checks.
The NN explanation consulted discusses underinsurance alongside a product with a maximum per claim event. This reinforces the need to read the whole arrangement: guarantee does not automatically mean unlimited. Use your schedule rather than copying an amount from a general example.
Ask specifically which proportional reduction the guarantee prevents and which other rules remain. That is more precise than asking whether everything is now completely insured.
Raise changes specifically
A different home, more residents or substantially changed furnishings may alter the situation. Consult the reporting provisions and ask whether registered information needs reviewing. Avoid inventing a universal list of changes that always or never matter.
Keep the response with a date and the circumstances it addresses. An answer about a previous property may not retain the same meaning after a move. If a new schedule follows, compare it with the previous confirmation to see which arrangement has been carried forward.
The guarantee then remains an identifiable contract provision with a defined scope. It stays distinct from ownership evidence, the cause of damage and calculation of an actual payment. This separation also makes an enquiry easier to answer: you can identify the guarantee provision without treating it as a substitute for the rest of the contract.
